Fifth year visit to UCC Spring Open Day 17/5/2018

Fifth Years attended the UCC Spring Open Day yesterday. Following a tour of the campus, students attended a presentation in Boole lecture theatre 2 on the courses available in UCC and some pointers on how to make the right choices. Meet Dutch Universities in Cork

Meet Dutch Applied Universities in Cork this Wednesday

Now that Irish students are experiencing the quality of education in Dutch Research Universities, and the attraction of living in the Netherlands, they are turning in significant numbers to the more hands-on, employment-focused programmes, taught through English, in the Applied Universities (Universities of Applied Sciences, UAS) which offer programmes in  subjects such as : Physiotherapy, Game Design, Business, Law, IT, Engineering, Art & Design, Teaching, Hotel Management, Music & Media Management, Sports Management and many more

Some of these universities are coming to Cork (Silver Springs Hotel, 11th April, 18.30) offering students and their families the opportunity to meet the universities and Irish students who are studying there.. Though Leaving Cert  students will no doubt be immersed in revision , they might be interested to know that many of these universities take applications into July and August. Of course, it is an ideal opportunity for 5th years and TY’s to become familiar with these options, ahead of key decisions in the coming year.

Importantly, the Dutch philosophy is that YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO AN EDUCATION, This is ensured by:
  1. Reasonable Entry requirements: students can apply with EITHER a relevant QQI Level 5 qualification OR six passes at Leaving Certificate (inc 2 at H4)
  2. Low Costs: Fees of Eur2006 can be recouped by an interest-free Tuition Fee Loan from the Dutch government (15-35 years to repay. Students can take their SUSI Maintenance Grant with them. There are additional monthly loans/grants (up to EUR850 pm) if student get part time job in the Netherlands

At this free evening event, seven of the Dutch Applied Universities will be speaking to prospective students and their families. Co-ordinated by EUNICAS, the evenings represent a fabulous opportunity widen  study choices and widen their horizons. Register for this free events here  https://dutchuniscork18.eventbrite.ie
