Applications are now open for Engineering Your Future, a
week-long, hands-on programme designed to introduce TY students to the exciting
and diverse world of engineering.
The programme, supported by STEPS at Engineers Ireland
and Smart Futures/Science Foundation Ireland, will be hosted by a number of
third-level institutes around the country in May 2017, including:
• DIT (Dublin Institute of Technology)
• UCD (University College Dublin)
• IT Tallaght
• IADT (Dun Laoghaire Institute of Technology) • IT
Carlow • WIT (Waterford Institute of Technology) • IT Sligo
The programme is designed to give Transition Year
students an in-depth understanding of the diversity of engineering at third level
and in industry. During the week, students attend interactive talks and
presentations; get hands-on experience with group-based activities; visit local
industry and meet engineers at various stages in their careers
Participation is limited to between 20 and 40 students at
each location. Successful applicants are selected based on a number of factors,
including Junior Certificate maths and science results and reasons for seeking
a place on the programme. There is a small fee for participating in the programme.
(Fees are waived for students from DEIS schools.) The deadline for applications
is 10th March. (The programme itself runs in May.)
